Smartphones and tablets have transformed the way we want to receive information – we now want to be able to access it right away. In order to keep up with Google’s recent project — Accelerated Mobile Pages — we are adding the option of checking an important AMP-related issue.
An AMP Page allows publishers’ content to load much more quickly than an equivalent webpage in a standard mobile browser.
So if you were able to jump on this bandwagon and create AMP versions of your website’s pages, you can now audit them in SEMrush as well.
When your AMP page lacks a canonical tag, it will trigger a “Missing canonical tags in AMP pages” issue.
When creating AMP pages, make sure you comply with the following requirements:
If you have both an AMP and a non-AMP version of the same page, you should place canonical tags on both versions to prevent duplicate content issues. To do this, add a rel=’canonical’ tag in the <head> section of each AMP page.
If you only have an AMP version of your webpage, it must have a self-referential canonical tag.
Canonical tags are often added to URLs that refer to themselves. For example, a tag on http://testthisnews.com/test.html referencing it as the original page for a certain piece of content will look like this:
If you missed the buzz about Mobile Accelerated Pages, read this post to decide if you even need to sweat it at all. This is just one of the numerous other AMP issues to check for.
So if you find this update useful, we’ll expand SEMrush’s auditing features for AMP pages.
We hope this new feature improves your Site Audit experience! Please feel free to send your comments, suggestions and questions to site-audit-feedback@semrush.com.
